Relationships heal when communication becomes your strongest connection
Relationships can be one of the hardest and most beautiful aspects of life! Some of the most common problems include communication, finances, trust, intimacy, and differences in stress responses. These are thought to be some of the most common issues within relationships. This being said, we will work alongside each other to gain new perspectives on all of these topics, and leave with practical solutions to assist in these areas.
It is Important to note that this group will be an open group that will be accepting new members openly the entire duration of the group’s span. The group will not have set structures, but will have quite a few topics set forth by the therapist that will facilitate helpful conversation and productive skills building. The therapist will also provide tools and concepts that are rooted in the Gottman method, attachment styles, Solution Focused Therapy, and even Emotion Focused Therapy. In this group, we’ll also grant time and space for members to process difficult relationship experiences and support others around them in doing the same in a safe space.
Relationship Trauma Processing
We also want to ensure that we are facilitating a safe space in which group members feel able to process relationship trauma alongside others that can listen actively, and grant perspective. The key attribute of doing this amongst others is to recognize that you are not alone. Others have endured something similar and are seeking connection amongst others too. Holding trauma from a relationship and not healing or working through it can place you in a position to be hopeless, anxious, and fearful about future relationship endeavors. It’s no shock that holding in trauma can also impact your body, emotions, and thought processes. It can also leave you feeling as though you can’t trust yourself to recognize unhealthy/healthy relationships in the future. Let’s build healthy relationships, and identify unhealthy ones together. No judgment, no blame, no disrespect. Just a space that is built on validation and encouragement. This is the way we heal from what trauma has done.
The Art of Healing: Embracing imperfections and growing together
Communication issues can leave you and your partner feeling misunderstood and frustrated. Additionally, this makes many couples and individuals feel very anxious when considering how to bring issues up within the relationship if they do not have the proper tools to be confident enough to fight more effectively.
Finances are oftentimes a point of contention for many couples, either there are different expectations for spending money or there is a lack of expectation all together. I will provide you with practical means to handle conversations surrounding finances as well as some helpful insights on how to make compromises when discussing finances.
Trust and lack thereof can demolish a relationship fairly quickly. When it comes to trusting your partner, it may look different for everyone in terms of what it would take to trust another individual wholeheartedly. Vulnerability is something many couples have trouble with, we will work together to utilize tools that will grant opportunities for vulnerability, and will assist in increasing vulnerability within the relationship in order to increase trust.
When it comes to intimacy, there is emotional and physical intimacy. For many, emotional intimacy must be at a certain level prior to any physical intimacy experiences. We will learn about intimacy, what encourages opportunities for both physical and emotional intimacy in order to achieve your intimacy goals. Finally, we will discuss the different stress responses and how each may respond in given situations. We will also learn how to support our partner in their given stress response, as well as take a few quizzes that will assist everyone in understanding their partner on a deeper level.
Curriculum:
Our curriculum is set forth to assist you in gaining all that you’d like to gain from the group and typically covers the following topics and tools. Typically, in each session, we will start out by checking in on everyone’s week and catching up on realizations anyone has had throughout the week. We’ll then open up the topic for the week, for example, some of the topics we will cover include Fair Rules of Disagreeing, Active Listening, and Reflective Listening, financial expectations, financial boundaries, and compromising with finances, extra skills for solving conflicts with one another, Emotional Intimacy, Physical Intimacy, Increasing opportunities for both, emotional regulation skills such as the way emotions work, strength building self-statements, reducing vulnerability, steps for increasing positive experiences, and opposite to emotion action, increase vulnerability, how to respond to vulnerability in a way that increases trust, and how to continue to facilitate trust within your relationship, Stress Responses, Attachment Styles, and Love Languages, We will then discuss the homework for that week and encourage everyone to give it their best efforts through the week.
Our goal of this group is to assist individuals who are looking to date, currently in a relationship, or in a long-term partnership/marriage in having the healthiest relationship possible. We want to facilitate an environment in which you can process, learn, and be supported amongst like individuals. By tackling the issues listed above together and completing assignments and activities to increase your education and comprehension of partnership and your personal relationships, you will gain the confidence you need to be the best partner you can be.
